Is a Staffy right for you?
- Do you have patience and like to be entertained?
- Are you willing to walk your dog every day?
- Are you looking for a loving and loyal family member? Or a new best friend?
- Are you able to set strict guidelines and boundaries for your dog and be consistent in upholding them
- All Staffys are very people friendly and extremely tolerant of children
- If you’re after a guard dog, you have picked the wrong breed - a Staffy is more inclined to invite an intruder in with a full body wiggle and kisses!
- You need to be able to commit a considerable amount of time, patience and resources in order to care for your dog during its lifetime.
- Basic obedience to establish yourself as pack leader is a must even if the dog has sit, stay and come down pat.
- Staffys do not cope well on their own for long periods of time – being people dogs they require, and will often demand, a lot of attention. You must be prepared to involve them in family activities and allow them to spend time both inside and outside of the home.
- Comparing a Staffy to an energiser battery is a good analogy, being the little powerhouses they are, Staffys can go and go and go, mental and physical stimulation needs to be a constant part of their daily activity to avoid destructive behaviour due to boredom
- If well socialised a Staffy can be a happy, friendly member of society. All dogs being pack animals enjoy companionship whether it is human or canine.
- Taking on a rescue dog is a life time commitment
If this fits your lifestyle, then a Staffy may be the right dog for you!
