Surrendering your dog to Staffy Rescue
If you are thinking of surrendering or re-homing your dog, please read the following very carefully. Once you have read it all thoroughly, if you still wish to contact Staffy Rescue with regards to rehoming your dog, please send an email to us by clicking on the link at the bottom. Please make sure that you include all of the information requested. If you do not, your request for help may not be processed.
We receive about 10-20 requests from people each week, wanting to rehome their dogs. As you might appreciate, we are not able to take all of them on. Unfortunately, we don't really have a huge waiting list of people looking for dogs. It is normally the other way around.
However, we can try to help you in two different ways.
Firstly, you can advertise your dog on our website in the Private Adoptions section. There is no charge for this and, all you would need to do, is send us an email with a photo of the dog, your contact details, and a nice blurb about your dog. You could also send a link to a video from YouTube if you wanted to.
Please Note: We only offer this service for dogs that can be proved to be desexed. So, you would need to send us a copy of their desexing certificates before we advertise them.
The second option usually hinges on whether or not we currently have room to take on a surrendered dog and on whether or not the dog is suitable for rehoming. We are almost always full, although dogs come and go all the time. So, we might end up with room at any time.
If you were to surrender your dog to Staffy Rescue, you would need to provide the following:
- Microchip papers showing ownership.
- If ownership is with somebody else, then a letter from them authorising the surrender to Staffy Rescue (including reference to the microchip number).
- Drivers' License or government issued photo Id of owner (or clear copy)
- Desexing Certificate (if desexed)
- Current Vaccination Certificate (within the last 12 months)
- Any other paperwork relating to the dog.
- Surrender fee ($150 per dog).
Please note that if you don't have any of this paperwork, you should be able to get most of it from your vet. We can not accept a dog without it, so it is very important that you provide it.
Some of the information we would like to ascertain before taking on a particular dog or advertising on our website includes:
- What is the dog's name?
- What is the reason for rehoming the dog?
- How old is the dog?
- What is the gender of the dog?
- Is the dog sociable with other dogs?
- Is the dog good with cats?
- Is the dog good with children?
- Is the dog desexed?
- Is the dog microchipped (in your name)?
- Is the dog lifetime registered?
- Is the dog current with vaccinations (within the last 12 months)?
- Does the dog ever try to escape?
- Does the dog suffer from separation anxiety?
- Does the dog suffer from storm or fireworks phobias?
- Does the dog have any training?
- What is the dog's breed? For example: Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Mastiff
- Is the dog a pure breed or cross breed?
- Do you have pedigree papers for the dog?
- A photo (or photos) of the dog.
- An optional link to a video of the dog (on YouTube for example)
- A suitable blurb about the dog. Describe personality, likes, dislikes, good & bad features.
- Please provide your contact details.
